Back in school getting some pre recs and then off to Acupuncture school.....maybe!!!!!
Already I am hittin the proverbial wall and my blood pressure is raising.....why????
Well I'll tell you......
I enrolled at Empire State Independent study section and am taking a 4 credit course in advanced nutrition. Now remember this is independent study...no teacher...just a mentor who may be i will speak to once or twice....this course costs 1000.00....ok...that is pretty expensive for a course I will take by myself but hey...thats what it costs.....still think it is an amazing scam!
Then to add insult to injury the text book is another hundred bucks.....ok..that isn't so bad for a text book and I certainly spend over 100X that in the course of a year on books...no that is not what troubled me so....
It was talking to the idiot at the book store to order it......this is the quack like a duck...with no eagle in site!
Me: Do you have (name of book)
Them: let me check....we have 8 different books with the same title....do you have your course number.
Me:Not off hand, however I have the name of the mentor...
Them: OK.....that doesn't help...do you have the ISBN number...
Me: your kidding right? If I am not sitting here with the course number(not in my office) than why would I have the ISBN number there...let me ask you something are you checking stock or are you looking at a publishers site???
Them: A publishers site....
Me: How man different courses on Advanced Nutrition does the school offer?
Them: one
Me: What book do you have in stock with this name????
Them: This one...it is called (the name of the book i mentioned at the beginning of the conversation)
Me: Send me that one then....
Let me tell you ....for $1100 bucks I want better service!
I realized that it has been a while since I have attended formal school....and now I realized what a money machine it is and how little they care about the students who come there....no wonder more and more schools are trying to get into the distance learning field...less work and more money for them!
alright..that's my rant for today...to be continued..I am sure!
Eric--how cool that you may be going to acupuncture school! I remember having to take all my pre-reqs, it was really daunting at first but then I got into it and actually enjoyed becoming a bit of a scientist. When I finally finished Physics, the professor was disappointed that I wasn't going to take the second semester (which I didn't "need" for acupuncture school) because I did so well! Good luck!

We shall see...I will keep everyone posted as to my progress or lack of progress.
Right now I am working through a 4 credit advanced Nutrition course. I am 1 credit shy of my bio science credits...
Can I just say out loud how much I hate this book!!! it is so poorly laid out it is not even funny.
Oh well...enough of my critizims..back to work...and thanks for the luck...I am going to need it!
